2009
2009 NSSCC Trophy Haul:

16th October 2009:- The Trackday Club at teesside autodrome.
We took yee old anchor to teesside for a trackday. We had a great day even though we had a few niggles with the car. I kept cooking the brakes for some reason and the LSD wasn't LSD'ing. Apart from that it was a lot of fun, pretty much everyone was well behaved. I also won the kart race at the end which was nice, set an alarming time of 50.581, I didn't think this was possible in a hire kart!

27th September 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 14 Croft
A big thankyou must go out to Gavin Lee and his mechanic Dave with Paul Moss, Dave Botteril, the Mckays and a few others for getting my car ready for Sundays race. I made another great start but was a bit hesitent after saturdays bump so dropped positions. The cars handling deteriorated through the race. We later found this to be a damaged trailing arm bush. I cruised to the end to finish 4th in class.

26th September 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 13 Croft
After setting my fastest time in qualifying and making a fantastic start due to having vtec in 1st gear, I was looking forward to a great race. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. I lost the back end at tower, I managed to catch it but as the car lurched forward, Rob Barnes in the class C vauxhall corsa went into the side of me hard. This left the car severely damaged and handling very badly. I crawled round back to the pitlane, my first DNF!

13th September 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 12 Cadwell
The line up for the 2nd race was much the same as the 1st. Paul Moss once again got a poor start, I didn't get too good a start either and ended up 4th in class by the end of the 1st lap. From here though was my most enjoyable race to date as I fought back upto 2nd place passing the two fiesta's of Gavin Lee and Mick Starkey. Overall, it was a brilliant weekend, also leaving no doubt that the civic is ok after its shunt at Oulton Park.

12th September 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 11 Cadwell
I was confident of a good weekend at cadwell, its a track I love and know reasonably well. I qualified well, 2nd in class right beside Paul Moss in the saxo. An exceptionally bad start sent him backwards down the field, an off at park corner didn't help either. I unusually got a good start and led from start to finish to take my first class victory. I was over the moon as I didn't really expect to be able to take a 1st place trophy this season.

31st August 2009 - Bookatrack trackday at Croft Circuit.
Arriving at croft, the conditions looked favourable, however shortly after the briefing it start to spit with rain. The circuit didn't look too bad however once on track, it was like driving on ice. You couldn't put any power down quickly. I had a couple of moments coming out of tower and the esse, but once the tyre's warmed up, it wasn't too bad. It didn't take too long for the circuit to dry out and we finally got the slicks on. A good day was had bar a small glitch with a rotor arm malfunction which we managed to fix.

29th August 2009 PM - 30th August 2009 - 24 Hour Kart Race Teesside Autodrome
I got invited at the last minute to join fellow NSSCC competitor Stephen Thompson in a 24 hour kart race at Teesside Autodrome. I joined Stephen along with Tom, Ian and Rich as Team 'Inappropriate Badger'. We were just on a hire kart from the circuit so was never in any contention for huge success, however it was great fun. We all got around 5 stints at about an hour a piece. We finished 48th overall out of 65, so at least not last! :-)
A great experience which I intend to participate in next year aslong as it doesn't clash with NSSCC commitments.

29th August 2009 - AM:- The Honda Civic at Macdonald Racing's Rolling Road
We finally got the civic onto the rollers to see what kind of power it actually had. The revs sounded fantastic at 8500rpm. The car eventually made 167bhp and 116 ft lbs of torque.

21st August 2009:- Testing at Teesside Autodrome with www.thetrackdayclub.com
After a disastrous day at Oulton Park last time out in the Civic, I managed to get a couple of sessions at Teesside autodrome to check the car over. Thanks to Howard at the trackday club for letting me on track at the end of the day. The car seems fine, handles ok and the engine stayed nice and cool, might be something to do with the fact that it had water in it this time!

14th August 2009:- Westfield Sports Car Club Mallory Park Trackday
We made our annual pilgrimage to mallory park for the WSCC trackday. This really is great value for money and a really good chance to meet up with fellow 'westy' owners. We had a good day, a few little niggles with the car but nothing serious and it came back in one piece. Big thanks to all the boys and girls at the WSCC for organising a good day.

8th August 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 10 Oulton Park
The weather was blazing hot and I looked forward to a good day at Oulton Park. I qualified a very strong 2nd in class and was feeling confident. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, I got tagged on the 1st corner spinning me round and sending me into the tyre wall. I quickly checked the car over and decided to nurse it back to pits. It felt ok so I built up some speed and salvaged a 5th place finish.

26th July 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 9 Croft Circuit
We turned up to croft in very poor weather but luckily by the time we came to race the track had dried. I'd qualified 3rd in class next to David Swales. I got a very good start but once again got boxed in on the 1st corner. I instantly dropped to 4th in class but worked my way back to 2nd and had a brilliant battle with Mark Armstrongs class C Rover. We'd also fitted a bullet cam facing backwards which captured some excellent footage!

25th July 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 8 Croft Circuit
Once again, qualifying was a bit of a nightmare. I managed to make myself some space this time but just when I was about to set a flying lap, the session was red flagged! I qualified 2nd in class. I made a reasonable start but got boxed in at the 1st corner. I dropped a couple of positions but got them back early in the race. I still couldn't catch the group ahead but I was much closer and they didn't romp away from me like last time. I was much happier with this performance over the last race.

12th July 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 7 Croft Circuit
I didn't get any clear laps in qualifying although I got one that was close. In all fairness the car was handling quite badly so I dont think I could have done much better. I qualified 3rd in class but was a long way off the pace of Moss and Lee in 1st and 2nd. The race was pretty dull compared to my last ones. After an initial battle with Mick Starkey who got the jump on me at the start, I settled down into a race all on my own. I actually finished 2nd after Gavin Lee's engine failed on the penultimate lap.

6th July 2009:- Easytrack trackday at Cadwell Park.
We turned up to a relatively wet cadwell park. The track soon started to dry however. Andrew had a reasonable session but still damp. I then took the car for a spin only to have the manifold collector snap, I pulled off and eventually got towed back to the pits. At about the same time the heavens opened with monsoon levels of rain. We managed to get the collector welded back up and were back out in time for the track to dry out again.

28th June 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Rounds 5 & 6 Cadwell Park
We turned up to a misty cadwell feeling pretty confident as I know the track quite well. Unfortunately we bungled qualifying by not putting enough fuel in it and along with a bad start in race 1 had a fairly dissapointing day. I started 3rd in the 1st race but only managed a 5th place finish. I started further back for the 2nd race but salvaged 3rd place. Congratualtions to Paul Moss who started from the back to take both class D victories! great performance!

13th June 2009:- Bookatrack Trackday at Rockingham Speedway.
This was our 2nd trip to Rockingham, the 1st had been April 2008 in my old Zetec powered westfield. This time we took the pinto. The layout was different to what we had done previously. I was worried it wouldn't be as good but how wrong I was. The layout was even better, never more have I ever wanted to straight away book another day. It was fantastic, I recommend this track to anyone. If you think it'll be flat and boring, allow it to prove you wrong!

17th May 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 2 Croft Circuit
The 2nd race on Sunday took place in much better conditions. I qualified 2nd only to drop to 4th on the 1st corner. I eventually managed to get back to 2nd place and make the below headlines in the local papers.

16th May 2009:- Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 1 Croft Circuit
My 1st ever race! Qualifying was reasonably dry and I posted 4th place but it rained for the race. I did reasonably well and in the end finished 4th in class out of 11. Please see the full race report below.

24th Jan 2009:- Teesside karting Fun Races.
I entered my 2nd days kart racing, this time held at night, I took my glasses so I could see. I had a great laugh playing in the mid field as I couldn't seem to compete up the front end of the field this time round. A lack of temperature and a suspicious lack of engine power put pay to any honours but it was exceptionally good fun for very little outlay, I strongly recommend people have a go at this if they want to get into competetive racing. The Races were actually at night so no video was taken, that and the camera broke!

30th Dec 2008:- Teesside Karting Fun Races.
A number of us took part in the teesside fun races today, it is my 1st competetive race of any sort so was looking forward to it. I qualified 3rd which was good but dropped to 5th in the 1st corner mele. Once my tyre's warmed up a bit I managed to fight back to 1st place and win! Not bad for my 1st shot. I then went on to win the other two races, so a very successful day. Unfortunately the video camera was a bit zoomed in so didn't come out as good as I hoped.
