Welcome to team pugwash. We are a father / son combination of trackday regulars. This website is dedicated mainly to myself Peter Dixon's entry into the northern sports and saloon car championship. 2009 was my 1st year of motorsport. I only intended to do 1 year of racing to just say I'd 'done it', but after only 1 race I had the bug and did it in 2010 as well, winning my class in the process. I will be participating again in 2011. Myself and my father Andrew have been doing trackdays in his and my own westfield for several years now. After my uncle and a freind started racing I quickly got the bug and my westfield went up for sale to fund a race entry. This site will also include pictures and video's from the trackdays we have done and are still doing.

30-10-11 - Javelin Trackday - Croft
Javelin very kindly let us on for a few sessions at croft. I took the 1st session on a damp but drying track. The conditions were quite frightening on the 888's and I nearly went off several times on the 1st couple of laps. Lap 3 I did go off! Under braking into clervaux the back end snapped and sent me backwards into the gravel trap! Andy then took the helm for the next couple of laps and showed us how it should be done, keeping it on the black stuff. I took one of the later sessions when it had dried some more. A great day, highly recommend these 88db days, loads of clear track to play in and cheap!

29-10-11 - Javelin Trackday - RAF Cottesmore
We managed to coax Jeff into bringing his caterham R400 for a play down RAF cottesmore and good fun was had. The two cars seemed relatively closely matched and a few good sessions chasing each other were had. Good to meet some old and new faces and another well organised day.

1-10-11 - Vtec Challenge Final Rounds - Rockingham
I decided to have a go at a round of the vtec challenge, I picked rockingham as it was after the finish of the nsscc season and was a track I enjoyed. My only worry was my short gearing on the fast banked sections. My fears were soon realised when in qualifying I hit the limiter long before the hairpin, not too much of an issue, I would just have to back off, I qualified 3rd for both races. In race 1 I made a reasonable getaway, Mark Chese got ahead of me in his Civic Type R but I managed to get him back under brakes into the hairpin. I then chased down Rich Voaden and Kris Dunlop ahead, I stuck with them for a few laps but my lack of top speed and general umph meant I was slowly falling back. I gave up in the end and cruised round to finish 3rd and get up on the podium. For the 2nd race, I elected to start at the back, this was a lot of fun and I managed to work my way back up to 3rd after a good battle with Gareth Broadbents CRX, unfortunately he had to slow down due to problems with his car. I really enjoyed this weekend and would recommend anyone with a honda give this very freindly race series a go!

25-9-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 14 Croft
Race 2, qualifying had put us in relatively the same positions. I made another excellent start although wasn't too greedy this time. This worked out well and I managed to get the class D with Paul and Jason in tow. At Barcroft I managed to put Ian Humpish's beetle between us, I then tried to press on and getaway. Unfortunately, the class C and B cars up ahead were in a very tight battle and instead of driving away they held me up. By this time Paul had managed to get past Ian and caught me up at the hairpin. Using the Saxo's power he managed to out drag me down the main straight and took the position. I gave chase and kept on the pressue until the end to finish 2nd and 7th overall, once again getting into the 37's which I was pleased with.

24-9-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 13 Croft
I went out last in qualifying as I had to bed in some brakes, this worked out well and I got lots of clear track. I set some reasonable laps and was confident I would be ahead of my rivals. However Jason had got 205 flying and took the fastest class D lap with me in 2nd, Paul 3rd. Jason started just ahead of me on the grid, I made a very good start and managed to get passed on the way down to the 1st corner. However I was too greedy and tried to get past David Cox's class C 205 and quickly ran out room. This meant I had to back out of the throttle letting Jason back through and Paul passed us both! A racelong battle then ensued between the 3 of us with places changing regularly. Paul took the win (5th overall), Jason second (6th overall) and myself 3rd (7th overall). I also set my fastest lap ever in this race, a 1.37.489 which I was over the moon with. It was one of the best races I've ever taken part in and thoroughly enjoyed it!

11-9-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 12 Croft
My second fastest time put me on 7th on the grid. I made another bad start being bounced by Mike Willamsons Evo and Mark Armstrongs Impreza. It was a drag race with Jason South's 205 down to the 1st corner, I managed to just hold on and re-passed the Impreza and Ian Humpish's Beetle which had ran into problems. I then gave chase to Pauls saxo and Stephen Kells Sierra, a good little battle ensued but I lost track of Paul when he got past Stephen. I finished 2nd in class and 6th overall.

10-9-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 11 Croft
I qualified really well for this race, sticking me 6th on the grid which I was pleased with. Unfortunately, all this work was undone when I made a terrible start! Ian Humpish and Paul Moss both got me on the start, I managed to keep in touch but never really got close enough to make a challenge, I finished 2nd in class and 8th overall.

26-8-11 - WSCC / Javelin Trackday at RAF Cottesmore
The weather was predicted to be wet for fridays trackday and it certainly was that. We should have probably packed the dinghy instead. However the track surface was grippy enough to still have a lot of fun and the minimal amount cars meant that we got lots of clear track. We really enjoyed the layout and will be looking to go back, hopefully with better conditions. Big thanks to all at the WSCC for organising the day.

13-8-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 10 Oulton Park
My best second lap wasn't too good, I started further back for this race. I started just behind Pauls saxo. At the grid, the red lights came on, Paul moved slightly, as did I but had to stop as the lights were still on. I got going again when the lights went out but Paul stalled, instantly handing me the class lead. I had good battle with Ken Halls 6r4 and Rich Ralstons Clio. The only dissapointment was the safety car coming out for the majority of the race which cut the race to around 4 racing laps. I came away with a class win but was still over all dissapointed, I love Oulton Park and was a bit gutted to miss out on race 1. I also was certain I could get the car down to a much better lap time but never got the opportunity.

13-8-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 9 Oulton Park
I'd had a slightly frustrating qualifying, the brake pads weren't bedded in so didn't really work for the 1st few laps. I managed to get 1 decent lap in before the flag dropped which was good enough to stick me 8th on the grid and 1st in class.
I made a good getaway and rounded the 1st corner still leading my class. However, going into cascades, Alex Rae lost the back end of his ginetta, I tried to avoid him but ran out of room. Paul in the Saxo and Ken Halls 6r4 went round the outside of me, I tagged pauls wheel and went over the back of the ginetta, getting up on 2 wheels in the process. I ended up in the gravel trap unable to get out. After the race, I drove the car back to the paddock, it seemed to drive ok, just needed some cosmetic work for the 2nd race. I was extremely dissapointed and nearly went home! My dad made me stay and proceeded to tidy the car up, thanks to him for keeping the faith!

24-7-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 8 Croft
I started alongside Pauls Saxo in this race, I managed to make another excellent start out dragging him off the line. However it was all about to go horribly wrong. I'd also out dragged Rich Voadens Integra but as we headed into turn 1, I went up the inside of Ians Beetle with Rich up the inside of me. In-evitably 3 into 1 didn't go and I got squashed like a bug between the two cars. I actually managed to survive the accident along with Rich but Ian was not so fortunate. He got spun around only for Jason Souths Peugeot 205 to collect him, also putting an end to his race.
The rest of the race I managed to make up a few places and chase Paul in the Saxo but after a while I dropped back, partly due to my annoying miss-fire and partly down to the damage from the accident. The car was toeing in at the front although the handling wasn't too bad so I limped home to 8th overall.

23-7-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 7 Croft
I managed to sneak my car into the form up area right at the front for qualifying hoping for some good clear laps. Out the pits, I got the tyre's upto temp and let Mike Cutts BMW M3 past giving me plenty of space front and rear. I started my 1st flying lap behind Mike and tried my best to keep up (as if), I was absolutaly flying until getting to the complex to find a yellow flag and a slow moving vehicle, I had to abandon the lap. My qualifying bad luck continues and got no clear laps for the rest of the session. I qualified 2nd in class and 8th overall. Added to this weekend were cars from the Honda Vtec Challenge which is something I was looking to enter the odd race in anyway. I managed to qualify 2nd out of the 'vtec'ers'.
To the start of the race, I got off the line well getting up alongside Pauls Saxo but had to give way as he had the line, this put me behind Richard Voadens Integra in the vtec challenge. The 1st 4 or so laps were brilliant with an 8 car scrap between Steve Kell's Sierra, Pauls Saxo, Rich's Integra, Mark Bensons Clio, Kris Dunlops Civic and Jason South's Peugeot 205. I was really enjoying myself but had got my tyre pressures massively wrong, these quickly went off after lap 4. I quickly fell back down the field and was struggling for pace. I managed to get 1 place back at the end when I un-expectantly passed Ian Humpish's beetle on the back straight, he had actually run out of fuel. I finished 11th overall and 3rd in class. I was dissapointed with the result but throughly enjoyed the early laps!

3-7-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 6 Knockhill
2nd race, I made another good getaway, I managed to get past Ian Humpish's beetle at the start but from then on it was much the same as the 1st race, being passed by more powerful machinery. I finished again, a distant 2nd in class. Overall a frustrating weekend although I adore the knockhill circuit, I would recommend it to anyone! Really enjoyed watching the SMRC Scottish saloon races, congrats to Phil in the westfield for taking his 1st win!

2-7-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 5 Knockhill
After a good practice session on the friday night I looked forward to qualifying. However it wasn't to be, I didn't seem to settle and even spun the car. My best lap in qually was a 1.01.200, nearly a second slower than friday nights practice. I qualified 2nd in class for both races. I made a good getaway in race 1 however Simon Mayne in the fisher fury stalled in front of, I managed to get round him without dropping too much time. Down duffers dip and Jason South managed to get a run on me, he got around the outside of me while I was bogged behind another car. Through the chicane I managed to get a run on him and re-take the position. By this time I was some way behind Paul in the saxo with a few cars between us. In-evitably I dropped back further as the more powerful cars managed to out drag me up the hill. I finished the race a relatively lonely 2nd in class and didn't really have much in the way of any battles, I just couldn't compete with a distinct lack of power. To confound my woe's I forgot to turn the camera on! Booooooo!

28-6-11 - Oulton Park Trackday with Easytrack
We managed to get a cheap place at this trackday through a freind (cheers Paul) so was rude to say no. The pinto had recently had a new head gasket after it blew at cadwell. The car ran faultlessly through the day right up to the last session where it started leaking oil, couldn't quite get a perfect day! We did the 1st few sessions on the toyo 888's, the car seemed really well balanced with them, I enjoyed the way the car felt. Anyway, a good fun day on one of the countries best tracks!

22-5-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 4 Cadwell Park
The track had dried for Race 2, I started 4th on the grid, 2nd row again. I made a good start and manage to nick 3rd when Rich Ralston when a bit wide at turn 2. Rich was on my tail down the back straight, I left my braking late, the car felt planted. I really pushed the car in the opening laps and it just seemed really tacked on, I was actually catching Brian Murphy's ginetta ahead of me. I did my quickest lap on lap 2 which was a 1.41.465, this was miles quicker than I expected and a possible class D lap record! I carried on pushing hard and was pulling away until I got baulked by a back marker in hall bends. This allowed the two class C cars to get back on my tail. Rich was a lot quicker than me at coppice and managed to get a run on me. I left a gap and didn't really put up a fight, this allowed David Cox's 205 through as well. By this time, we had pulled a large gap on Pauls saxo so wanted to consolidate my 1st in class rather than tangle with other class's. I watched the clio and peugeot battle it out till the end and then crossed the line a very happy driver. 1st in class and 5th overall.

22-5-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 3 Cadwell Park
I love cadwell so was really up for this weekend, we thought we'd found and cured my miss-fire too so was looking forward to a trouble free run. However when qually came round, the problem was exactly the same. We'd fitted some gauges to keep an eye on oil temp and pressure. the pressure appeared to be fine but the temp was going skywards! I actually managed to get some clear track though so pumped in some reasonable laps, my best being a 1.43.6 which wasn't bad. This actually put me in 3rd overall on the 2nd row of the grid! When the race came though, the rain also came! The rain had stopped by the time of the start but the track was greasy. I made a reasonable getaway but couldn't hold of David Cox's class C pug 205 who flew past me down the back straight. Paul Moss in the saxo who started 2 rows behind got a flyer of start and was right behind me. I was able to fend him off for a couple of laps but it was clear he was more confident on his brakes in the greasy conditions. He outbraked me into park and went all the way around the outside to take 1st in class. I chased him closely until it really started to rain! The Civic went very well in the full wet conditions, it appeared I had a lot more grip than Pauls saxo however it didn't take long for my windscreen to steam up and just couldn't see. I had to back off down the straights as I didn't even no which direction I was pointing. In the end I gave up thinking about overtaking and just brought the car home, letting a couple of 4wd's through in the process. I finished 2nd in class and 7th overall.

14-5-11 - Rockingham Trackday with Easytrack
Weather was looking changeable for this trackday but it held out for the majority of the day. We got a number of good sessions on a fabulous track before the head gasket went on the pinto, cutting our day slightly shorter. Still, we had a good day overall.

24-4-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 2 Croft Circuit
I managed to source two wheels or roughly the same specification from a freind locally. We managed to get the tyre's swapped over sunday morning and headed back to croft. After yesterdays poor start I vowed to make a much better start. This time I didn't fall asleep and seemed to hook the car up perfectly. I sailed passed Jason's 205 and Mick's fiesta to get me straight upto 2nd in class. I was only a few cars behind Pauls Saxo and decided to hang back to see how it panned out, the cars between us should really be quicker so I expected him to come back to me as the race progressed. Unfortunately, on around lap 5, Pauls engine let go in a big way gifting me the class lead. For the rest of the race I pretty much watched the kit cars battle it out in front of me. However the last two laps, Jason caught me and was travelling very quick. I only just managed to fend him off to take the class win. It was a reasonable end to the weekend although I was dissapointed in the car. It still had its miss-fire and got very hot in Sundays race. I thought we were passed all this but its reared its ugly head yet again!

23-4-11 - Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship - Round 1 Croft Circuit
I went into round 1 feeling pretty confident in the small tweeks we had made. However it didn't go to plan at all. 1st of all I had a nightmare in qualifying. Oil down on lap 3 and a lot of traffic put pay to any clear or quick laps. My best was 3 seconds off last years pace. I qualified 4th in class but was still hopefull for the race. After a pretty dismal start (asleep I think) I settled into the race. Start of lap 2 and I was right behind Jason South's peugeot 205. Dave Bone in his westfield had gone off at hawthorne's, by the time I got there he was re-entering the circuit so had to let him in. This allowed the chasing pack to catch up. Going down the back straight, Steve Kells sierra managed to get alongside me on the left. Unfortunately, under braking he slipped on some oil careering into my left rear quarter doing damage. I managed to coast back to the pits dissapointed. However, we found there was no suspension damage and it had just cracked the wheel rim. Steve's car suffered some bent suspension components but we were both confident of being out the next day. A DNF in the 1st round, not the best start to the season.

25-3-11 - Trackaction Online trackday at cadwell park.
We had a bad start to the day when a wheel fell off the trailer on the way to cadwell. We managed to limp it there with two wheel bolts per wheel to find fellow NSSCC competitor Mick Starkey having troubles with his tow car! He had called the RAC man out who luckily had some new wheel bolts to re-attach our wheel safely. On to the day, the car performed reasonably well, the little improvements we had made seem to shine through and the car felt planted. I had a good few chases with the trackaction boys as well as other cars. We had 3 4th generation civics out as well with Ed's and Ethan's civic turning up. A highly enjoyable day as per usual.
